Explore the most scenic stretches of the King's Road over Filefjell. With this package, you get to enjoy three days of hassle-free hiking on historic paths, while we take care of the logistics and make sure you are well rested in between your adventures.
Day 0
Arrival at Filefjellstuene. You are accommodated in a hotel room or terraced cabin.
Day 1 (Øye Stave Church – Filefjellstuene 12.3 km + Optional: Kvamskleiva 4.7 km)
The path from Øye Stave Church to Filefjellstuene is the longest authentic section of the King's Road, and takes you through beautiful cultural landscapes from lake Vangsmjøsa up to Filefjell. This adventure can be extended by being driven to the start of Kvamskleiva and walking this section, before continuing by bus to Øye Stave Church, or by bike along lake Vangsmjøsa, before continuing by foot to Filefjellstuene.
Day 2 (Kyrkjestølen – Maristova 10.7 km + Optional: Filefjellstuene - Kyrkjestølen 7 km)
We drive you to Kyrkjestølen, from where you hike over the mountain to Maristova. All day you hike on the original King's Road from 1793, which crosses straight over the mountain. Amazing views of the Jotunheimen mountains await you on the trail. We pick you up at the agreed time at Maristova, and take you back to Filefjellstuene. This hike can be extended by walking directly from Filefjellstuene in the morning.
Day 3 (Vindhella 2.7 km, Sverrestigen 1.9 km, Øygardsvegen 2.6 km, Galdane 4.4 km)
We drive you down to Borgund Stave Church after breakfast, where you can take a tour of the stave church if you like. Tours to be arranged with the visitor center (not included). The hike starts close to the church, and takes you over Vindhella, where the walled-up hairpin bends you see in the famous pictures from the King's Road are located. At the end of Vindhella, you can choose to walk back to Borgund Stave Church over Sverrestigen, or hike further down Øygardsvegen to also include the scenic Galdane hike, where you visit the restored homestead Galdane. We pick you up in the afternoon by the stave church or at Seltun (end of Galdane) by appointment. If you choose Vindhella - Sverrestigen, it will be 4.6 km, while the combination of Vindhella, Øygardsvegen and Galdane will be 10.7 km.
Depart from Filefjellstuene after today's hike or add more overnight stays with other hikes and activities in our mountains.
